Time To Write A Sefer Torah
For many patients at Laniado Hospital – Sanz Medical Center, the visit to the Hospital Shul (synagogue) three times a day is very much a part of the healing process. They are joined by the medical faculty, visitors and staff. This was all part of the vision of the Hospital’s founder, the indefatigable late Rabbi Yekusiel Yehuda Halberstam, Sanz/Klauzenburger Rebbe zt”l, a Holocaust survivor. While seriously wounded during the Death March between Warsaw and Dachau, after losing his wife and 11 children, the Rebbe vowed that should he survive he would build a hospital in Israel where all people requiring medical attention would be treated with expertise and devotion, no one would ever be turned away.
To honor the memory of the Rebbe and the milestone of 40 years, friends of Laniado Hospital – Sanz Medical Center have embarked on a campaign to write a Sefer Torah for the Hospital shul so that the patients have their own Torah to read from on Shabbos, Yom Tov and those weekdays when the Torah is read. What better way to give courage to the sick then to make them feel “at home” not only with the most humanitarian care but also with a beautiful new Torah.
Join In A Double Mitzvah – Bikur Cholim And Writing A Torah
Supporters of Laniado now have the unique opportunity to participate in the special mitzvah of writing a Sefer Torah while also offering encouragement to the patients at Laniado. The Sefer Torah will be named the Pinchas Goldner Sefer Torah, in memory of the late son of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Goldner of Los Angeles, who are underwriting the cost of the Sefer Torah.
The Sefer Torah campaign will not only help the Hospital shul with a new Torah for its patients, but it will also help renovate the shul, which is so important to the patients and their caregivers at Laniado.
You can be part of this important mitzvah by taking advantage of a number of dedication opportunities. Please join us in continuing the legacy started by the Rebbe.
