About Us

Supporting a hospital founded on unwavering faith and kindness.

History

Following the Holocaust, the Sanz Klausenberger Rebbe, zt”l, and several hundred followers settled in Netanya, Israel. Laniado Hospital’s cornerstone was laid in 1959, a mere 15 years after its founder’s liberation from the Nazi Death Camps. To this day, it remains the area’s only hospital, even as the population of Netanya and its surrounding communities has grown to more than 500,000. In June of 1972, American Friends of Laniado Hospital was established, which continues to raise the crucially needed funds to keep Laniado Hospital thriving.

The Klausenburger
Rebbe

Rabbi Yekusiel Yehudah Halberstam, zt”l, is remembered across the world for his warmth and compassion. He
vowed to establish Laniado while gravely wounded during the Holocaust, after the murder of his wife and 11 children in Auschwitz. Conceived during one of Jewish history’s darkest chapters, Laniado’s first departments, Birthing and Maternity, symbolized rebuilding after the Holocaust’s unspeakable losses. Despite his countless responsibilities, the Rebbe was extraordinarily devoted to Laniado, persevering despite tremendous obstacles throughout its launch. As a private hospital, Laniado does not receive full government funding, due to the Rebbe’s insistence that no patient be turned away and that Laniado never strikes, making it the only hospital in Israel whose staff has never joined a nationwide strike. The Rebbe’s patient-first ethos continues to shape Laniado today.

Mission

Laniado patients receive the highest standard of medical care, in an atmosphere of compassion and an unwavering commitment to human dignity. Guided by the Sanz- Klausenberger Rebbe’s, zt”l, belief that healing depends on how a person is cared for, Laniado is devoted to delivering world-class medicine with a deeply human, Torah-centered touch.

Vision

Laniado aspires to safeguard life, welcome new souls, and strengthen healing across Israel. Its growing responsibilities, from expanding emergency readiness to reinforcing lifesaving infrastructure, are focused on building a stronger, more resilient future for all who rely on its care.

Fuel the next chapter of compassionate care.
