Laniado Rethinks What Young Patients Need

The Jerusalem Post's Greer Fay Cashman Highlights Laniado's Efforts to Improve the Hospital Experience for All Children.

Hospital patients in Israel may have noticed that meals are more appetizing and attractively presented than in years past. Part of the reason that well-known chefs are taking an interest in hospital food.

One example is internationally acclaimed master chef Gershon Schwadron, who lives in Boca Raton, Florida. While on vacation in Israel, he ran a culinary workshop for kitchen staff at Laniado Hospital in Netanya to demonstrate that meals for patients in a pediatric department could be just as nutritious when prepared in a more colorful, creative manner.

“Young patients deserve meals that are not only healthy, but comforting an enjoyable,” he said.

“If a delicious, beautifully presented meal can bring a smile to a child’s face and encourage them to eat, we’ve accomplished something meaningful,” Schwadron continued.

Laniado’s executive chef agreed.

In other Laniado news, the hospital, in partnership with ALUT – The Israeli Society for Children and Adults with Autism, has established what it claims to be Israel’s first medical center with a pediatric emergency department that is both autism-friendly and trauma-informed.

By doing so, Laniado is setting a new national benchmark for emergency care for children who are on the spectrum or who have other developmental disabilities.
