Welcome Dr. Reiman

Dr. Shlomi Reiman, a highly experienced surgeon and one of Israel’s leading specialists in the surgical treatment of obesity (bariatric surgery), has joined the senior surgical staff at the Sanz Medical Center – Laniado Hospital. Dr. Reiman will head the hospital’s Obesity Treatment Clinic, which provides a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to treating obesity, a condition recognized today as a global epidemic.

The clinic offers a full spectrum of services, including lifestyle modification guidance, various pharmacological treatments, and advanced bariatric surgical procedures. As part of his role, Dr. Reiman will perform a wide range of bariatric surgeries, including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, mini-gastric bypass, and duodenal switch (SADI), with each procedure individually tailored to the patient’s medical needs.

Dr. Reiman completed his residency in general surgery at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, and at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, followed by a fellowship in Tampa, Florida, specializing in robotic and laparoscopic surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract. He has authored more than 40 articles in leading professional medical journals.

Dr. Reiman’s appointment comes at a time when injectable GLP-1 medications for obesity treatment are rapidly gaining popularity. However, he cautions against viewing them as a standalone solution. “It is important to understand that injections are not a magic bullet,” Dr. Reiman explains. “Many people are unaware that their benefits may be limited over time and that they can involve significant side effects. If the medication is not properly suited to the patient—whether due to clinical background or adverse reactions—weight can return, sometimes at a faster rate than before treatment. In some cases, patients require a combination of medical and surgical treatments, either as preparation for surgery or as part of postoperative care.
